Testimonial:
I hated my job and was stuck in a rut! I needed a new career fast.
I love driving and I love teaching so becoming a Driving Instructor
was the obvious career move. I needed the best Driving School that
my money could buy, a school that could put me through the ADI course
as quickly as possible.
I chose Elite because they are a real local company, they had the
best looking Ad in the yellow pages and the websites not bad either.
I'm glad I did because the tuition I recieved from Kev was second to none.
Informative, relevant, thorough, pitched at the right level and enjoyable.
I passed all three parts of the ADI training exams on the first attempt
and within my own tight schedule and budget thanks to the help from
Kev and The Elite Driving School.
I was so impressed with the quality of my training and the
professional way in which it was organised, after qualifying....
I joined the company!

About Training to become a qualified driving instructor.
Am I instructor material?
You have got this far and you are still looking, and if you are honest with yourself, the chances are that the answer to the question 'Am I instructor material?' will be "YES" If you are an average driver, a good trainer will be able to raise your driving to the advanced standard required, however you also need to be interested in people. This doesn't mean that you have to be a socialite. You will be working one to one with people, so the ability to gain and maintain rapport is essential.
The Course
The course consists of three modules:
- Theory and hazard perception
- The Test of driving ability.
- The Test of Instructional ability
1. The Theory Test: At the start you will be given The Elite instructor pack which will guide you through a comprehensive learning procedure preparing you for the multiple choice Theory examination and hazard perception video clip exam, this will also include training sessions at our local office. You have to answer 100 multiple choice questions about all aspects of driving and driver training. The questions follow a similar format to those set in the Learner's Theory Test but cover a much wider spread of topics including teaching practice and principles. The HPT comprises of a selection of film clips, showing real road scenes and potential hazards. You will be tested on fourteen film clips; these clips will be chosen at random from a selection of two hundred.
2. The Test of driving ability: The practical test of driving ability consists of two parts.
- The eyesight test
- The practical driving test.
The driving part of the test is of an "Advanced" type and a very high standard of competence is required to pass.
You need to demonstrate an expert defensive driving approach. During the test you will show that you can control the vehicle safely, employ 'eco-friendly driving strategies, follow correct road procedure, recognise and deal with any hazards that are encountered and complete some basic set maneuvers.
You will also be asked to perform a range of set manoeuvres:
- Emergency stop
- Left and right reverse
- Reverse (parallel) parking
- Turn in the road
- Bay parking (where facilities permit)
The examiner will assess your:
- Handling of the controls
- Use of correct road procedure
- Ability to anticipate and act upon the actions of other road users
- Judgment of speed
- Judgment of distance
- Consideration for other road users
The training you receive will be up to RoSPA "Gold" standard, similar in requirement to the Police Class one test.
3. The Test of Instructional ability: The object of this test is to assess your ability to instruct and your ability to pass on your knowledge to your pupil.
The test is in two parts of about 30 minutes each.
Both parts must be passed on the test.
You will be expected to demonstrate to the Examiner (who will act as your pupil for the purpose of the test): Your knowledge and ability by giving instruction at:
- The Novice (beginner) stage
- Partly trained (a few lessons)
- Trained (ready for test) stage.
- Qualified stage (full licence holder).
You will be assessed on your ability to match your instruction to the level of the pupils who are portrayed, observe and correct any errors and maintain a safe controlled learning environment.
A note about training.
It's easy to become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) if you get the right training. Get the wrong training and you might well join the 90% who never make it.
